What it is
0.5 Hz sits at the very bottom of the delta range (0.5–4 Hz), the slowest brainwave rate associated with deep, dreamless sleep. A 0.5 Hz tone cannot be heard directly, so GSS renders it as a binaural beat: a 200 Hz tone in one ear and a 200.5 Hz tone in the other. The 0.5 Hz difference is perceived as an extremely slow, barely perceptible swell.
What users may experience
An almost imperceptible, very slow rising and falling between the ears. Headphones are required — without them the two tones mix in the air and the effect disappears.
Traditional associations
The slowest delta rates are used in deep-sleep and night-listening audio, where 0.5 Hz represents the deepest end of the band.
Sound & relaxation
Binaural beats are a well-documented perceptual effect of two slightly different tones. Research on whether they shift brain states or improve sleep is limited and mixed.
How to use it
Use headphones. Play very quietly for 30–60 minutes as you settle for the night. Do not use while driving or operating machinery.
Suggested session length
30 · 45 · 60 minutes — listening style: Headphones only, night listening; intensity: gentle.
Safe listening
Headphones required. Not for use while driving or operating machinery. If you have epilepsy or a seizure disorder, speak with a clinician before using rhythmic audio.
